I had managed to go to bed at a relatively reasonable time Friday, so, I actually woke up early and ran a couple of errands... dropped off a bag of clothes at the Salvation Army and stopped by the post office.
Then I headed down to Columbus Circle to meet up with Christian, Chad, and Annie for a walk. It was really a beautiful day... not too hot, not too muggy. I didn't even realize until Sunday that I got a little bit of color, too!
We did a bit of a combo walk... I wanted to end up near Christian and Chad's place so I could hit The Container Store, so, we did part of the big loop in Central Park and then cut over to walk down the River. You can see our route here. Christian mapped it, too... slightly differently. But, I think this is close enough. I should have done it right after to get it right! In any case, it was *around* 6.6 or 6.7 miles... and it felt GOOD.
I've been slowly, but, surely, redoing my closet with these plastic boxes for my shoes... I can only buy 6 of them at a time if I expect to actually get them home, so, it's taking a while.. and, whenever I can, I stop by and get more. This time I only got three, though, because I just had to get matching drawers for under my bed... oh, and risers so I could actually fit the drawers under my bed. Once I got home, of course, I couldn't wait until someone else could help me... pulled everything off my bed... including the mattress... and wrestled the risers into place. It was a bit of a sweaty job, but, I got it done! Yay. :)
I'd been toying with the idea of heading to Central Park for another movie... they were premiering "Little Manhattan" to cap off the Central Park Film Festival. I was going back and forth about it, actually leaning toward skipping it, but ended up meeting up with Maria to check it out.
The movie was at 8, but, they open the "doors" at 6, so, we met up around 6:30 and headed in. It was already a little crowded, but, we didn't have too hard a time finding seats... opted for the bleachers in the back. Free popcorn, good company, excellent people-watching. :)
They didn't have a red carpet so much as barriers set up cutting through the field for the VIPs to walk down to the reception. We saw the child stars of the movie go by and get their pictures taken at the end... and we started talking about Bradley Whitford. Turns out Maria is quite a fan.
We wondered... "why isn't anybody at the barricade?" "don't people usually line up at the barricade?" "are people here just too cool for that?" "or do they not care?" "or is it somehow not allowed?" "is there a special NYC code where you don't do that?" "What the hell? is anybody going to stop us from going up there?" "can we just ask him to take a picture?"
We were contemplating if we should just go hang out at the barricade and wait when Maria spotted Bradley Whitford at the end of the barricades. "Let's go!" she said. And we did.
There was still nobody down at the barricade, so, when he and his entourage-of-sorts approached, she just called out, "Bradley! Will you take me a picture with me?" "Sure!" he said.
She chatted with him a little and he was suitably charmed. :)
Then I piped in with, "So, do you remember your assistant asking you to sign a little bear for breast cancer?"
He did. :) So, I told him that the auctions were currently live and that his was getting the highest bids... up to $147 at that point. Then I said, "You really should go bid on your wife's bear... she's only got one bid." He laughed and said, "Don't tell her that! She's very competitive."
It was awesome. :)
Of course, after we went down, other people got wind of what we were doing and also descended on the barricades. We started a ruckus! Go us. We, having beaten the crowd, went back to our seats.
Then we started wondering about Cynthia Nixon... she was sure to come down, too, right?
Maria's Spidey Sense kicked in again and she spotted her down at the end of the barricade. We went down again... unfortunately, some other people were on to us now and a few other people started going up to the walkway. I wasn't too concerned since there were only two girls sort of in front of me... they called out to her and she stopped and was very nice. But, then they started babbling about their friends across the barricade and could she please, please, please sign their stuff, too? So, she moved across... and while she was over there, more and more people crowded in (including the girl pushing her big boobs against me on the left and the guy on my right asking who the woman signing autographs was). She signed a bunch more stuff, but, I couldn't get close to her again. Well, I was close, but, not close enough. They decided it had taken too much time and rushed her off before I could get her to sign a bear. SO PISSED. Oh well.
They actually started pretty close to on time... got the whole cast up on stage for a little ra-ra and then started the movie... which was *so cute*. Really. And shot mostly on the upper west side, so, that was really cool. I really kind of feel bad for everyone who's not going to get to see it on a beautiful night in Central Park. It was perfect. :)
When the movie ended we joined the hordes leaving the park... I love late night crowds in the park. :) I took the 79th Street bus across and then walked the rest of the way home. Voila! :)
