I think Spring really has sprung this time! Another gorgeous day... and some more walking... not quite as much as I would have liked, but, some. :)
Abby, Erica and I started out with a tour in Central Park... The Amble in the Ramble (pre-amble, we actually walked about a mile getting to the start at Belvedere Castle). It was a great tour... and reassured me about my own training... this is definitely the sort of tour I'll be able to do. And the woman leading the tour confirmed my thoughts about yesterday... the volunteers don't even do that one!
It was very cool because I do wander through the Ramble on occasion (it's an incredibly cool part of the park... seems very wild and natural, but, is actually one of the most carefully landscaped and built parts of the whole thing), but, I didn't know what all the different "landmarks" were. We saw the Azalea Pond and the turtles sunning themselves on "the oven" and The Bow Bridge (above). Then we wandered around the lake where I took a picture of a tree and a reflection... but, I'm not sure if the reflection's of that tree! Through the Rustic Gate. And ending up on a bridge looking at a part of the water you'd never believe was in the middle of the city.
After the tour we headed to Bethesda Terrace to eat crepes for lunch. Sat right on the water and relaxed in the sun. We were quite amused by the mating habits of dogs... these two dogs discovered each other and the sniffing and nuzzling began. Then it got out of hand... one of the dogs sniffed the other's butt... and the sniffee tried to pee on the sniffer! It was hysterical. Even funnier when the owner of the dog described the exchange to his friend... complete with lifting his leg to demonstrate the peeing.
Regrettably dragged ourselves away to head to the Super Runners Shop so I could pick up some new shoes... since I was still walking in the ones I trained in (and wore for the walk) last year, it was definitely time! Picked up two pairs and we headed home so I could drop them off. It was *very* difficult to make ourselves get on our feet and out the door again... but, we did. :)
Jumped on the subway and headed down to Union Square... the ride actually wasn't long enough for me! It felt *soooo* good to sit down... especially with the straight back of the seats! Hung out at Cosi for awhile with Abby's Mom, Mary and a friend of their's. They headed off to Queens at 5:00 and Erica and I rallied and headed to Times Square... which brings us to...
The Teddy Bear Project Update!
Abby and I had been thwarted in our efforts to get Richard Dreyfuss and Eric Stoltz's autographs last night, so, Erica and I gave it another go. Headed to the Barrymore Theater and realized about a block away that the show had left out (took a peek at passersbys' Playbills!). So, we picked up the pace. There were already a bunch of people waiting outside the stagedoor, but, we still managed to stake out a spot.
Waited about 10 minutes and Richard Dreyfuss came out... with a guest... Jerry Orbach! Everybody swarmed Richard Dreyfuss and Jerry Orback kind of stood off to the side, so, we went after him first. He was very cooperative and we got his signature and his picture. He tried to pull Erica into the picture, but, she was like, "No! With the bear! The bear!" (I must say, she and Abby were both *excellent* stalking assistants!)
Then we finally got to Richard Dreyfuss. Got him to sign the card and asked him to hold the bear with for a picture... and he said "okay" but didn't really take the bear. So, Erica just kind of snuck it in the crook of his arm while he was signing and I snapped the picture. He was telling me to take it quick after I'd already taken it! Score! :)
So, add them to Hugh Jackman, Peter Scolari and Elizabeth Berkeley and we're off to a good start!
Seemed like it was going to be another no-go for Eric Stoltz, which was a bummer. Peter Scolari came out and was, again, very graciously signing lots of autographs. I made a crack about holding his soda again and when he saw Erica holding the bear, he was like, "Oh! The girl with the bear!" I told him we'd been unsuccessful getting Eric Stoltz's autograph and he said that he's just kind of shy and tries to avoid the whole thing. He said that he'd try to get him to sign one (!)... and told me to come back to the theater before a Wednesday matinee and tell them I have something for Peter and he'd see what he could do. I asked if he thought we'd be able to arrange to get a picture with the bear and he said he'd work on it! Asked my name, shook both of our hands, said again that it was a great cause and went off on his way. He is seriously one of my favorite people right now... so nice!
After that, we walked two miles back up to my neigborhood to Jackson Hole to have dinner with a girl who I met because her mom stumbled across the Photo_a_day, which is pretty cool. Hung out there for awhile, hit Hollywood Video and went our separate ways home.
Another excellent day! And I have a feeling I'm going to sleep *very* well tonight! :)
