Went to go see a matinee of the The Caine Mutiny Court Martial today... really enjoyed it--more than I expected to! I usually go more for musicals, but, I feel like I've been seeing a lot of plays lately... and liking them. The whole cast was great and, of course, I hit the stagedoor after to try to get some bears signed... though I think I was a little off today. :(
Zeljko Ivanek came out first, but, didn't quite make it over to where I was. Then Tim Daly came out and, again, didn't quite make it to where I was... I tried to get his attention, but, he got in his car pretty fast. David Schwimmer actually came over to where I was first, which was cool. But, I don't think I was quick/clear enough explaining PTB to him... he grabbed my Playbill and started signing it while I was explaining and then did sign a tag, but, when I asked for a picture with the bear, apologized and said I'd just have to try to "catch one" (which I did). It was just a teensy bit disappointing since there were fewer than 20 people there... it wasn't a huge crowd like with Christina Applegate or Hugh Jackman, etc.
Three Days of Rain was next door, so, I went to check it out. While I was waiting for Schwimmer, et al, there was *huge* cheering next door... twice... presumably for Julia Roberts and Paul Rudd, since when I walked over, Bradley Cooper was signing (very, very cute in person!). The crowd was pretty crazy, but, I didn't really want to try to get him today anyway, so, I just observed. :)
Walked back up the street and saw Marcia Cross outside Faith Healer. Now, I try to be as respectful and low-key as I can when I approach people (especially when they're not in a position where they're expecting to be approached, like a stagedoor) ... and was waiting a few feet away while she was talking to someone... but, people started noticing her and actually grabbing each other and yelling her name and taking tons of pictures. I won't say it's a definite consequence, but, when she finished talking to the person she was talking to and I approached her and said, "excuse me..." she just smiled and walked away. Can't say I blame her. :(
Went around the corner to Faith Healer's stagedoor to check and see if the three stars all came out (I'd heard that Ralph Fiennes was relatively reticent)... watched for awhile and, sure enough, they all three came out. And all signed and took pictures and seemed really nice to everyone. I think Ralph Fiennes even had some guests waiting for him, but, still took plenty of time... and waved to everybody as he got in his car. Cherry Jones was much prettier in person than she looks in ads and stuff I've seen. I'm excited to see this play in a couple of weeks. :)
Last but not least, I thought maybe I'd catch Harry Groener at Spamalot, but, I think I was too late... it was all empty at the Shubert stagedoor... and I can't imagine they were yet to come out.
So, yeah, not as productive a day as it could have been, but, saw a good play and then had a great walk home. :)
