Obviously, I try to do as much of my own "stalking" and autograph collecting as I can for my fundraising efforts for The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer... but, I can't be everywhere. And, luckily, I've got friends who are willing to help me out... and even friends who've *become* friends after they were strangers who offered to help me out. Some of these friends have gotten some *great* bears and gloves signed over the past few weeks.
As I write this, Heidi is on her way home from the San Diego Comic Con. When she offered to help (and suggested I send her a couple of gloves and about 50 bear tags), I happily put together a package. After trying to take a stab at the completely overwhelming program for the con, I pretty much left it up to her to just get whoever she could without disrupting her con experience too much.
I *did* tell her that I had ONE special request... if there was any way... that the "holy grail" for me at this particular con was a boxing glove signed by Joss Whedon and the cast of Dr. Horrible.
I'm an unabashed Whedon fan. And anybody who knows me knows how great I think Neil Patrick Harris is and how much I appreciate his repeated participation in my projects. I'm also a Browncoat, so, you know... Nathan Fillion. Yeah. :)
My head just about exploded when they first started talking about Dr. Horrible and since it came out on the Internet last week, I've watched it countless times and downloaded it from iTunes... I work out to it, watch it on my commute.. I love it. And I'm not the only one... it's been all over the news and the web. It's a bonafide phenomenon. So, from both a personal interest point of view and a potential money raising point of view... this was the one to get. Without question.
So, when I got an email from Heidi on Friday night... I crossed my fingers and opened it up... and, voila.... sure enough, she came through with flying colors!! I was *SO THRILLED*!!
She got a bunch of other great people, but, I'm going to wait until she has a chance to get home and give me a complete accounting before I say anything else... there have been a bunch of excited phone calls and emails... but it'll be easier (and, you know, build more anticipation ;)) if I wait. ;)
San Diego wasn't the only Con hotspot this month. A few weeks ago, in Baltimore, was Shore Leave.
I was originally supposed to go with my dad, but then we ended up having a family weekend instead so, while I was in Baltimore, I didn't actually go to the con. Luckily my friend Laura had offered to help me out. :)
I met up with her with a list of folks I wanted to sign bears and a bunch of tags... and wouldn't you know? She got EVERY SINGLE PERSON on my list. Several of them had done it before, but there were a few new ones... and I was *particularly* excited to get George Takei and Malcolm McDowell. Everyone took pictures, too! Check it out...
George Takei | Malcolm McDowell | Jewel Staite |
David Hewlett | Kate Hewlett | Mark Sheppard |
I've got another friend, Kelly, who has been helping me out for *years* out on the west coast... she waits outside The Tonight Show and Jimmy Kimmel, she works her work contacts, she calls in favors... she's amazing. And a few weeks ago I got this gem in the mail... a glove signed by the cast of Scrubs!!
So, thank you thank you thank you to Heidi and Laura and Kelly and everybody else who helps me out with this stuff... YOU GUYS ROCK!! :)
