Amy Acker at Xanadu
Went to go see Xanadu last night... which I loved! Just the right amount of self-deprecation, ragging on the 80s and ROLLER SKATING! That will definitely be a repeater.. at the very least, going to see it again when Heidi's in town and now a bunch of my friends and I want to go back and sit on-stage. Woo!
I was interested in Xanadu no matter what... I still remember seeing it twice on the same day in the theater on my 11th birthday! I got *really* excited when Alan Tudyk was attached to it for the workshop... but that was early on in the process and then he wasn't part of it anymore. And then Jane Krakowski dropped out, too, which was a bummer. And then the rumor started circulating about Kristen Bell maybe doing it... WOO!! But that didn't happen either, dammit. But I was still interested... it was Xanadu!
And then, when they announced that James Carpinello was going to play Sonny, I have to admit I had an extra little bit of excitement just by the mere fact that he's married to Amy Acker.
So, that's the roundabout way of getting to the first preview last night and finding Amy Acker sitting two rows in front of us (she was in my very favorite seat... dead center, 1st row mezzanine). I was *so* hoping she'd be there that I had even almost brought a glove with me to try to get her to sign it with plans on getting David Boreanaz to sign it next week at Stories Left to Tell. But, I didn't. And I agonized over whether I should go up to her before the show, but, I didn't want to bother her.
After the show, though, was another story. :) I was sitting on the aisle on the right right side of the center section, so, I rushed up and over to top of the aisle on the left side. It actually worked out perfectly since her front row seat put her among the last people to exit... and there weren't a lot of people around when I approached her. She seriously could not have been any sweeter about the whole thing!
I told her that I was a huge Angel and Alias fan and had loved her in both. Then I explained Project Teddy Bear to her... with my print out of pictures conveniently folded to highlight Joss Whedon's picture. ;) She signed and took the picture... yay!
And then I think I proceeded to babble at her for about 5 minutes as we exited the theater... about how much I'd been looking forward to the show and how much I'd loved it... how I was coming back with other friends... how we wanted to sit on stage... how I'd seen Xanadu twice on my 11th birthday... how my friends were all watching it in a backyard in Queens on Saturday... how I lived right down the street and walked by the theater on my way to work every day... how the first show I'd seen on Broadway after moving to the city was Saturday Night Fever (which also starred her husband). Oy. *sigh* I'm a dork... but, she's awesome... I just couldn't stop smiling about the whole thing for a long time after.
