Special Tony Awards Edition of Project Teddy Bear (with bonus boxing glove!)

What better way to multi-task watching the Tony Awards than to post a bunch of auctions featuring Broadway stars??? And I'm thrilled to point out that one of the stars helping fight breast cancer in this batch won her first Tony last night... congrats to Marcia Gay Harden!!

There are also bears from Harden's "God of Carnage" co-stars James Gandolfini and Hope Davis; bears signed by Tony nominees Martha Plimpton, Constantine Maroulis and J. Robert Spencer... and nominees Allison Janney and Marc Kudisch signed bears as well as a boxing glove also signed by Dolly Parton and the rest of the cast of "9 to 5" on Broadway!!

Please check out the whole batch here! And check back... I'll be posting a few more Broadway items later this week!!

Dolly Parton and the Cast of 9to5!

Dollyparton Some of you may remember Katie McKee from when she walked with my 2007 team for the Avon Walk in New York... well, when a bunch of us girls decided to go see "9 to 5" on Broadway a couple of months ago, my friend Patty, who's also Katie's aunt, saw my Facebook update saying I was at the show and told me that Katie was working there! Well, a few texts back and forth, and next thing you know, after the show, we're backstage catching up with Katie! Gotta love technology. ;)

Not only did Katie give us a great backstage tour, but she has very generously and patiently helped me get a glove signed by Dolly Parton and the cast of the show as well as bears signed by Allison Janney, Megan Hilty, Stephanie J. Block and Marc Kudisch!! THANK YOU KATIE!!!

I'll be launching a big batch of Broadway related auctions in the next day or so in celebration of The Tony Awards this weekend... don't forget to sign up for the mailing list on my website to get notified about new auctions when they go live!!

Hoping raising money to fight breast cancer is good karma for Dollhouse!

Okay, it's a stretch, but you know I always like to have themes for batches of auctions and since the San Francisco Avon Walk is only two months away and I've got to get going with my fundraising... this one is Dollhouse themed in an effort to drum up cosmic good karma in hopes of a renewal for Season 2!

All four of the actors (either regular cast or guest cast on Dollhouse) with bears in this auction have participated in my auctions more than once in the past. Eliza Dushku and Tahmoh Penikett have both signed bears twice and Alan Tudyk and Mark Sheppard have each signed bears three times! Tahmoh Penikett also signed the Battlestar Galactica boxing glove and Alan Tudyk has signed two gloves at different times for auctioning off. It's the ongoing generosity and patience of people like this that have made my fundraising efforts so successful (and so much fun!) and I really appreciate it!!

How cool is this????

My friend Lisa went to go see The Flight of the Conchords in Philly on Saturday (as a side note... SO JEALOUS she got to see my friend Shari who I haven't seen in way too long!) and offered to take along a glove and bear on the off chance she could get to the guys to ask them to sign at the stage door.

Then she took it one step further... and got in touch with their tour manager, Amy, ahead of time... and Amy came through way beyond expectations! Lisa handed off the goods to Amy and Amy got the signatures and some great shots of the guys! I'm so excited! HUGE props and thanks to Amy! :)

Don't forget... if you're interested in these items or any others I've posted about, you can join the mailing list on my website to get notified when new auctions get launched. :)

Must be Walk Season!

Yep... it's *almost* starting to feel like Spring in New York (at least it was before I left last week for vacation! ;)), which means we're inching up to Walk season... and I've got 2 announcements to warrant this blog entry. :)

1)  Sketch Cards for Breast Cancer Auctions are LIVE!

I'm so excited! About a year ago, Marco at 258 West started recruiting a bunch of incredibly talented sketch artists to create one-of-a-kind sketch cards featuring a bevy of women of sci-fi and fantasy (plus a few bonus suprises!).

I've finally got the second half of the cards (28 of them!) up for auction and I'm so thrilled to be making them available. As always, all the proceeds go right to The Avon Walk!

You can check out all 28 of the new auctions here!

Take a look.. place a bid... and, if you know of any appropriate mailing lists, bulletin boards or sites... please help me spread the word about the auctions!!!

As always, thank you so much for your incredible support!!

2) I'm bicoastal for 2009!

When my friend Kadi said she was thinking of walking in the San Francisco Avon Walk, I knew I wanted to walk with her. So, as soon as she signed up, I did, too! And, of course, I'll also be walking in NYC. :)

I know times are tough right now, but if you're able to make a donation... of ANY amount... I'd be incredibly grateful. And don't forget.. your donation can be made in one payment or spread out over 3 or 5 months.

If you're making your donation in honor or memory of someone specific, please be sure to email me their name so I can add it to my shirt for the walk as someone I'm honoring.

My fundraising goal for 2009 is $15,000... if you can help, please visit my personal page.

Thank you so much!!

Becki Newton and Michael Urie!

Went to see a great show at Joe's Pub tonight... Broadway Loves the 80s! It was totally AWESOME! An amazing lineup of Broadway folks singing great tunes from the 80s. One of many many great performances was Michael Urie and Becki Newton, from Ugly Betty, singing a medley of TV theme songs... including Urie going into the audience to sing to Judith Light when he did the theme for Who's the Boss.

After the show, I was lucky enough to get them both to sign bears... and they were incredibly indulgent and generous when I asked them to do one each and one together. So great. :)

August 8, 2008: 6 miles

080808 Finally started really training for the Walk. I'm *so* late getting into it... and of course, on my first loop in Central Park... I have to take a break to hide in the woods from the rain! Oops!

Michael Emerson is an *Excellent* Actor

One of my friends is actually freaked out by the thought of meeting Michael Emerson. We ran into him at the gym once and after I said "Hi" I turned around to introduce my friend, a Lost fan, only to find that he had actually slunk away so he wouldn't have to meet him. When I told him about seeing Michael on the street another time, he told me I should have run away! He's *that* creepy and scary on Lost.

But when I went to visit my friend Jimmy at the bar he works at a few nights ago and found myself sitting next to his friend Michael at the bar, I was struck again by how completely opposite Ben Linus he is... just totally nice and unassuming and friendly. He's really low-key and I kind of hated to put him on the spot asking him to sign a bear in a restaurant like that, but, he's heading back to Hawaii soon and I didn't know when I'd have another chance, so, I bit the bullet and asked. And he could *not* have been nicer about it. Was totally happy to sign and take a picture... I was so psyched! And I *think* I was quiet and quick enough about it that Jimmy didn't even get mad at me for bugging his friend. ;)

Support The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer!

  • Avon Walk Donation Page for Lisa Spodak
In 2009, I'm walking in my 16th and 17th Avon Walks! I've raised more than $100,000 since I started walking in 2002... every donation helps... if you can contribute please make a donation on my personal fundraising page. Thank you for your support! :)
  • Breast Cancer Sketch Cards
My newest fundraiser! My friend Marco over at 258west.com came up with this -- recruiting generous artists to create sketch cards to auction off for the cause! You'll notice lots of tributes to great women of SciFi/Fantasy/Comics: Wonder Woman, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, River Tam, Dana Scully, Ellen Ripley, Starbuck, Princess Leia and so many more!
  • Knock Out Breast Cancer
As just one way that they help fight breast cancer, Everlast has donated pink boxing gloves for me to get autographed and auction off as part of my fundraising! You can see who I've gotten to sign so far on my website. :)
  • Project Teddy Bear
One of my favorite fundraisers... I spend a *lot* of time hanging around stagedoors and sending out letters... trying to get celebrities to sign little tags that I attach to breast cancer bears and auction off. When I can, I also take a picture of the star with a bear... and you can see the (very cute) pics on my website. :)
  • Store (Cafepress)
Please check out my Cafepress store to see dozens of items created from the photos in this blog... all of my profits go to The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer!
